Emptying Your Nest

Whether you are moving to downsize or same size or even add size, this is the time to decide which items will go with you to your new residence. If you haven't moved for a very long time, this can indeed appear to be a overwhelming project. While I am in no way a minimalist, having moved multiple times over the years has helped me pare down our belongings. I used to own close to fifty cookbooks, I'm now down to fifteen. And don't even ask how many shoes I once owned! I've been reading "The Joy of Less - A Minimalist Guide to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify," by Francine Jay, who is proudly known as Miss Minimalist. I was curious about her strategies and how they could be applied to the moving process. One quote really stood out that may be helpful, "Decluttering is infinitely easier when you think of it as deciding what to keep, rather than what to throw away." So....does that mean, Yay, we get to pack EVERYTHING? No, not at all. What I take away from this statement is moving is the perfect opportunity to look at everything you own and decide if it's something that you really need. As part of my staging service, I can help you with strategies to make those decisions. One hint, All You Need is Les.
